Hello There
Iām Kelly Reider, the founder of English Learner Portal.Ā When I receivedĀ my degree in Linguistics and my certificate in teaching ESOL, I knew I was prepared to do great things. I took two courses about teaching reading and writing to English learners. Of course, I was ready.
I was not ready. No one told me there were students in all grades who were not yet reading. I mean EVERY grade. I had no clue, and while Iām sure you are not as āgreenā as I was then, itās still hard to find information about how to teach reading in a second language.
After years of trying many programs and ideas, I met an amazing reading teacher who opened my eyes to a different approach. Over the years, I was able to customize that approach for English learners based on second language research..
